See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

I’ve been getting some writing done recently, and I think I’ve clocked why I, an aromantic and possibly ace-spec person enjoy writing and (primarily) reading romance so much.

My favourite genre is fantasy, primarily because it let’s me explore things that don’t exist in real life. Magic, dragons, mysterious rogues sneaking in the night and epic fighters battling with swords. Etc.

And romance? To me it has the same appeal. Romance doesn’t feel any more real than the dragons in Eragon or the elves in Lord of the Rings. Sex and such feels more real, but still distant. Like other fiction, but with a setting based on our own world.

I think this actually explains why I at times want a partner of the romantic variety, even though I can’t pinpoint a single time I’ve been certain that I want that from another real life human.

After all, I’d fucking love to have a dragon

okay THANK you for pointing out the weird flow and syntax of 'we're gonna sunder you' like I keep see it getting thrown around as a badass moment and it's always just scanned so strangely to me. I can easily think of 5 more badass lines/moments from Imogen. It's an improvised form, so not every delivery is gonna be perfect, but people truly lost their minds for that despite there being so many better options

Thanks! Yeah…this is super, super, speculative, like, I cannot stress enough how subjective and speculative it is, but there were a couple of other really weird lines from other characters during the retrieving Laudna arc (the one I recall was Orym’s “plume of goodness” line; ironically the “whatever hole she’s leaving” line in the resurrection does actually fit into Imogen’s diction but its sophomoric humor potential has not been realized within the fandom, which is a mistake). I have to wonder if it was sort of a realization for Matt and the cast of how little time Bells Hells had had to like…settle and bond. We had this massive dramatic setpiece of an early death with a serious risk of becoming permanent and it felt like it was hard for a good number of the characters to properly pivot to the roleplay in a way that felt natural. Compared to how gutting and real the aftermath of Molly’s death felt for the Nein, it just felt odd and not quite realized.

It also felt like, and this is probably more because we just finally got out of the endless Treshi stuff, that the campaign finally began to hit some form of stride immediately after that arc. Like, it took until the solstice to really get there, but while I’m a completist by nature and there’s plenty of great individual moments in the earlier episodes that you’d miss, my advice to someone who fell off Campaign 3 early and is now getting interested again but doesn’t have the time to watch everything would be to read Dani’s summaries up through at least episode 34, optionally read them through episode 38 unless they really want to see the Vox Machina appearances, and start in on episode 39. While there’s still a few lore dumps to go, the Gorgynei, Yios, Feywild, and long skyship travel scenes all provide much more room for the characters to finally breathe and interact and make their own choices, and then the party split arcs are genuinely both great.

Getting back to the original point, yeah it’s not a great line, though Imogen actually doing said sundering of the tree is a great moment.

Artagan for the ask meme

Answering what’s in my inbox, not taking new questions:

  • First impression: as someone who isn’t terribly into bathroom humor, as Garmelie, kind of annoyed me, but the Artagan reveal was fucking great.
  • Impression now: weirdly Tary-esque. He’s the worst and I love him so much.
  • Favorite moment: kicking Jester and Fjord off while he was getting pulled to Moon Prison.
  • Idea for a story: I wrote one actually in which he offers advice to Melora on being a warlock patron and it’s one of the works I’m prouder of, but in terms of ideas I haven’t already enacted, someone wants to write up his response to Predathos I’d read the hell out of that.
  • Unpopular opinion: sort of the lynchpin of the larger “wow the fandom response to the Rumblecusp arc, which was great, kind of sucked for dumb ship reasons” opinion but it’s possible to both believe that Artagan does genuinely care for Jester and did not intend in any way to hurt her and also due to being a chaotic archfey did a lot of things that did cause her pain and stress, and that the Nein responded to that in very understandable ways. None of these are contradictory opinions.
  • Favorite relationship: Jester
  • Favorite headcanon: I think Nana Morri finds him amusing but irritating. I think he fucking hates Ira Wendagoth for extremely petty reasons.

For the character ask meme: Jester.

utilitycaster answered:

Answering what’s in my inbox, not taking new questions - this is the last one from this meme!

  • First impression: ngl I found her slightly grating early on. Like, fun, but some of the unicorn hamster stuff had me like girl you’ve been accused of murder. girl there’s a town on fire. can you focus.
  • Impression now: great. Laura excels in quiet, background character development and by the Pirates arc my issues with Jester were resolved; by late campaign she had fully shot up in my estimation.
  • Favorite moment: episode 2x72 you will always be perfect; she reads smut to ghosts, she decides she’s going to rid him of Uk'otoa, she is like *loudest stage whisper possible* FJORD YOU FORGOT YOUR FAKE VOICE, genuinely iconic.
  • Idea for a story: mystery story set in Nicodranas in which a camp counselor/apothecary and an artist/gallery owner solve it. Nott the Best Detective Agency rides again.
  • Unpopular opinion: I mean, she’s subject to the “aw a sweet baby who is also immensely powerful and can do no wrong and is too special to die and if you acknowledge or engage with her flaws beyond some quirky awkwardness/clumsiness a la a 90s romcom woman, I will claim you hate her” issues that plague Imogen and Keyleth, unfortunately. For some reason every campaign you get a young-ish female character that a bunch of people are like CLEARLY she is the most special and then proceed to treat her like a fucking toddler beauty queen of a person and it’s very tiresome.
  • Favorite relationship: Fjord, and this includes the platonic and even distant stretch during the Xhorhas arc. That said Jester’s friendships with Veth and Yasha are severely underrated.
  • Favorite headcanon: somewhere along the Menagerie Coast there is a feral horse wearing a dress. It becomes a legend.

For the ask meme: Tarryon?

utilitycaster answered:

Answering what’s in my inbox, not taking new questions:

  • First impression: he’s the WORST I LOVE HIM.
  • Impression now: mostly the same honestly. Tary grew a lot with his time with Vox Machina, but also did not change very much, and I support him.
  • Favorite moment: any time he ugly cries for comedic effect.
  • Idea for a story: more Darrington Brigade! Literally anything about it.
  • Unpopular opinion: I don’t know if I have any? I feel the issue with Tary is simply that he gets ignored, rather than any real opinions about him.
  • Favorite relationship: I love that he eventually became best friends with Vex after she initially hated him.
  • Favorite headcanon: Vandran secretly loves his books.

“I always remember having this fight with a random dude who claimed that ‘straight white men’ were the only true innovators. His prime example for this was the computer… the computer… THE COMPUTER!!! THE COM-PU-TER!!!

Alan Turing - Gay man and ‘father of computing’ Wren operating Bombe - The code cracking computers of the 2nd world war were entirely run by women Katherine Johnson - African American NASA mathematician and ‘Human computer’ Ada Lovelace - arguably the 1st computer programmer”

- Sacha Coward

Also Margaret Hamilton - NASA computer scientist who put the first man on the moon - an as-yet-unmatched feet of software engineering, here pictured beside the full source of that computer programme. #myhero

Grace Hopper - the woman that coined the term “bug”

- @robinlayfield

hylocereus--undatus

Grace Hopper did more than coin the term “bug”. She invented the first program linker in the early 1950s, for the UNIVAC I. A program linker translates instructions from one language to another (for example, numerical codes that represent instructions translated to machine code that computers can read), which is the very foundation of how computer’s operate independently. she also pulled a steve rogers and tried to enlist in the military a bunch of times and was denied. then, an exception was made for her when she joined the navy reserves, and she ended up serving for over 40 years (half of which was active duty). she retired from the navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper. she was born in NYC in 1906. Grace Hopper was a fucking badass.

also computing was typically a job for women (many of whom were black women that made incredible contributions) back in the day, so it’s absolutely fucking wild that straight white men think they are the foundation of computer innovation. men PUSHED women out and took the credit.
